Len Bernard was widely known and loved as one of Australia’s finest musicians. His drumming was legendary and he performed with all the major players of the last 80 years or so. Len was also admired for his wit, his quick sense of humour and his erudition. Jotting of a Jazzman is a selection on Len’s writings taken from personal journals, letters to friends and family, as well as a number of articles and sleeve notes. While not a biography of Len Bernard’s life, Jotting of a Jazzman provides some fascinating insights into the life and musings of a great Australian drummer.

Includes a ‘who’s who’ compiled by Bill Haesler.

Praise for ‘Jottings of a Jazzman’

Len was a great brother a marvelous musician and a
wonderful person. To have his jottings collected together in one
volume keeps his memory well and truly alive. ‘Bob Bernard, Sydney.

Jazz legend Len Bernard was a fantastic musician, raconteur par
excellence and brilliant writer ‘Jottings’ bring him back vividly – a great
read by a friend and mentor. ‘ Skip Humphries, Brisbane.

Len was one of the most beautiful musician and human being one could ever
wish to know. His humour and wonderful grasp of the English language – and
indeed, of life in general – makes this collection of his writing a great contribution
to the literature on music and musicians in Australia.’ Tony Gould, Melbourn
